The Family Protocol in Argentina. A perspective from the Agency and Stewardship theory and a Perception of Family Business Owners and Top Managers.

his research aims at exploring the view of family businesses owners and CEOs of family business from Argentina about the topics and elements that a family protocol should contain to contribute to the family busines? continuity, based on Agency Theory and Stewardship Theory. We created a model linking both theories to protocol and its impact on continuity. To this end, we conducted a survey with family businesses in Argentina, obtaining 220 responses. We used Structural Equation Modeling to validate the model.Our results show that in the perception of the respondents to our survey, a family protocol contributes to the continuity of a family business, insofar as it includes norms that both reduce agency problems and favor stewardship behavior. Norms that have positive influence in reducing agency problems are those regulating the establishment of governing bodies and the relationship between the business and the family.
